“Give me a kiss, Beauty.” ~ Dean

Sigh….swoon. Gets me every time he calls her “Beauty“. I have loved Professor Dean West from the moment I met him in Arouse, book 1 of the Spiral of Bliss series. He is the perfect book boyfriend…sexy, smart, gorgeous, protective and romantic. The love story shared by Liv and Dean is one for the ages. I was excited and nervous when author Nina Lane shared the news that there would be another book, a final book, for them. Their story was done, beautifully, I might add. I feared this book could change my feelings towards my beloved characters. But then I thought, hey, it’s author Nina Lane. If her characters have more to tell, there’s no way she won’t do their story justice with grace and eloquence. I was right.

“I love you, beauty.” My voice cracks. “With everything I am. With so much more than I am.”

Do you have to read this book for closure? No, I guess not. After all, their story was not a cliffhanger. You can continue happily along, secure in the love of Dean and Liv. Should you read this book? YES! Do you need to read this book? YES! It’s another chapter in their life. One that should be filled with happiness and everyday family or work drama. And, it is, until, it’s not. Not a path I wanted for our fairy tale couple, but, then again, it’s not a path I’d want for anyone, ever.

“Since the day we met, not once has Dean flinched from any of the monsters threatening either me or our relationship. On the contrary – he’s drawn his sword and battled them all into retreat. But this, we both know is different. This is the one monster he can’t battle.”

Brilliantly written and beautifully told, author Nina Lane stays true to our characters. Continuing to utilize the dual POV, we hear the story from both their perspectives. Professor Dean West acts and speaks exactly as I would imagine in a situation such as this one. Liv, steadfast in her need to be independent at a time when one would want to crawl into a ball and be taken care of, she does exactly what you’d expect of her. Our support characters, Kelsey, Archer, Allie et al are perfect. Even the one friend who shocked me the most, at first earning my ire and then melting my heart.

Author Nina Lane explores the fall out, the impact, the fears and anxiety, the utter helplessness one could only imagine facing a battle of this magnitude. A monster from within. How do you fight when the enemy is inside you? Their journey touches everyone. It is so honest and realistic. The emotions I felt during this read were strong. I cried, I laughed, I was angry. I was hopeful. I swooned. I know some readers are not going to be happy the story went this way. But give it a chance. You’ll see the story isn’t about the monster. It’s about them. Liv and Dean. Their love, their intimacy, their relationship. is a fairy tale come true….monsters and all.
